Cost is driven mainly by the diameter of the stump measured at ground level, plus depth, root spread and access. A small stump is inexpensive; a large old maple stump costs more. Several stumps done in one visit are much cheaper per stump, and adding grinding to a removal we are already on site for is the best value. Estimates are free and firm.

Six to twelve inches below grade is standard and is plenty for sod, seed or a garden bed. If you are planting a new tree in the same spot or pouring a slab, tell us and we will go deeper.

Yes. We grind deeper, remove the bulk of the chips and backfill with topsoil so the new tree is not sitting in decomposing wood, which robs nitrogen. If you have the room, planting a metre or two away from the old location gives the new tree the best start.

The machine is compact, fits through a standard gate and does not rut a dry lawn. We order utility locates for every job so buried gas, hydro and communication lines are marked before the cutter wheel goes in the ground. Sprinkler lines and dog fences are not located by the utilities, so please tell us where they run.

Most stumps take somewhere between fifteen minutes and an hour depending on size and root spread. A property with several stumps is usually finished in a morning.
